About EASYBLACK

Painter | Narrative Illusionism

Easyblack, Nigerian-born painter and creator of Narrative Illusionism

Biography

Easyblack is the artistic name of Emeka Uzochukwu, a Nigerian-born, Poland-based self-taught painter working primarily in oil on canvas. His practice is centered on Narrative Illusionism — a visual language that constructs portraits and identities through fragmented imagery.

Each painting invites viewers to look beyond the surface, revealing the stories, experiences and emotions that shape the individual. Inspired by real-life events and lived experiences of people, Easyblack creates narrative series that reconstruct identity through fragmented imagery, revealing the emotions, memories, and experiences that shape human existence.

His artistic journey began in childhood, evolving from drawing with pencil, charcoal and pastel to painting after being inspired by open-air art displays on the streets of Lagos, Nigeria.

He holds a BSc in Marketing from Anambra State University, Nigeria, and an MSc in Innovation Management from Poznań University of Economics and Business, Poland.

His work has been exhibited at The Holy Art Gallery, London (2024), and Mothrland Atelier Open Studio Exhibition (2026).

Artist Statement

I specialize in what I describe as Narrative Illusionism — a painting approach that tells stories using fragmented imagery.

Rather than presenting a complete portrait at first glance, I construct each subject from visual pieces that gradually come together, encouraging viewers to slow down, look deeper, and discover the experiences that define a person.

Working in oil on canvas, I draw inspiration from real-life events and the stories of people around me. Each series focuses on different human experiences, using fragmentation not as a form of concealment, but as a reflection of the layered nature of identity.

Through my work, I hope to evoke emotion, encourage reflection, and create greater awareness of the personal narratives that often remain unseen beneath the surface.

“Narrative Illusionism is a painting approach that constructs portraits through fragmented imagery, allowing individual visual elements to unite into a complete identity while revealing the stories and experiences that shape the subject.”
